Typhoon Saudel Approaches: Potential Impacts on China’s Port Operations
Typhoon Saudel is approaching the eastern coast of China and is already beginning to impact port operations in the region. The situation requires close attention, particularly as some ports are still recovering from the effects of recent weather events.
Expected Arrival
According to current forecasts, Typhoon Saudel is expected to reach the Chinese coast between August 27 and 28, with potential impacts mainly affecting the ports of Ningbo, Shanghai, Xiamen/Fuzhou, and Yantian/Shekou.
Operational Outlook
📢 Ningbo: operations have already been suspended as of 4:00 p.m. on August 26 (local time), with further operational stoppages expected.
📢 Shanghai: operations may face restrictions or even be suspended, depending on the typhoon’s development and trajectory.
📢 Xiamen / Fuzhou: port and inland operations may be suspended between August 27 and 28.
📢 Yantian / Shekou: no significant impacts are currently expected.
Potential Consequences
In addition to the effects directly related to weather conditions, global port congestion remains at elevated levels, particularly in North Asia. This situation may increase the risk of delays and further capacity constraints.
For the Asia–Brazil trade lane, prolonged disruptions at major Chinese ports could place additional pressure on freight rates, transit times, and vessel space availability.
